Using the Optical Flow to Implement a Relative Virtual Mouse Controlled by Head Movements
نویسندگان
چکیده
The following paper introduces the work conducted to create a relative virtual mouse based on the interpretation of head movements and face gesture through a low cost camera and the optical flow of the images. This virtual device is designed specifically as an alternative noncontact pointer for people with mobility impairments in the upper extremities and reduced head control. The proposed virtual device was compared with a conventional mouse, a touchpad and a digital joystick. Validation results show performances close to a digital joystick but far away from a conventional mouse.

Aims. Devices that allow using the functionality of natural hand movements are of the greatest interest. The purpose of this study is to select areas of research at the intersection of several fields of science – biomechanics and cybernetics to develop scientific and technical approaches to track the movements of the operator's fingers and form feedback tactile and force communication received ...
متن کاملVirtual Reality Game Controlled with User’s Head and Body Movement Detection Using Smartphone Sensors
This paper proposes methods for detecting user’s body and head movement using accelerometer and gyroscope to control the natural visualization of the 3D game object in smartphone platforms. A virtual reality (VR) game has implemented on smartphone to demonstrate the new controlling system. The user can control the visualization of the 3D VR displayed in a new head-mounted displayed (HMD) like G...
متن کاملVection and cybersickness generated by head-and-display motion in the Oculus Rift
Cybersickness is often experienced when viewing virtual environments through head-mounted displays (HMDs). This study examined whether vection (i.e., illusory self-motion) and mismatches between perceived and physical head motions contribute to such adverse experiences. Observers made oscillatory yaw head rotations while viewing stereoscopic optic flow through an Oculus Rift HMD. Vection and cy...
متن کاملOptimal Power Flow in the Smart Grid Using Direct Load Control Program
This paper proposes an Optimal Power Flow (OPF) algorithm by Direct Load Control (DLC) programs to optimize the operational cost of smart grids considering various scenarios based on different constraints. The cost function includes active power production cost of available power sources and a novel flexible load curtailment cost associated with DLC programs. The load curtailment cost is based ...
متن کاملSaccadic body turns in walking Drosophila
Drosophila melanogaster structures its optic flow during flight by interspersing translational movements with abrupt body rotations. Whether these "body saccades" are accompanied by steering movements of the head is a matter of debate. By tracking single flies moving freely in an arena, we now discovered that walking Drosophila also perform saccades. Movement analysis revealed that the flies se...
